Fiddle | Violin

Qristina began playing violin in 1996 at the age of six. Soon after her start with classical violin training, she discovered fiddle music and began down the musical path of folk/traditional music. Most recently, this journey brought her to Ireland – where she earned a first class honours Masters of Traditional Irish Music Performance at the Irish World Academy in Limerick, Ireland.

Along with her brother Quinn, they launched the duo ‘Qristina & Quinn Bachand’ in 2006. As part of this duo, they have performed across Canada, the US and in Europe at concert halls and music festivals. They have received and been nominated for many awards, and have been featured on numerous Canadian, US and international radio and television programs.

Throughout her performance career Qristina has worked with a number of world class fiddlers in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, such as Kevin Burke, Zoe Conway, Matt Cranitch, Tola Custy, Donal Lunny, Gerry O’Connor, Liam O’Connor & Siobhan Peoples (Ireland), Andre Brunet & Daniel Lapp (Canada), Brian Conway (USA), and Alisdair Fraser & Paul Anderson (Scotland).

Besides performing, Qristina is a popular and sought after fiddle teacher. She started teaching at the age of sixteen, and has taught privately as well as at workshops, music camps and festivals in Canada, the United States and Europe.  She offers an in-depth knowledge in a number of musical styles, and brings her love of traditional fiddle music to her students lessons and workshops.

Qristina teaches at Peninsula Academy on Wednesdays starting September 2018.
