Adult Programs

As Music Teachers we have always advertised All Levels, All Styles and All Ages. All of our teachers always have a mix of students ranging from Six to Senior and no matter what the age, a program is designed specifically for each student. That is the beauty of the private lesson format, the teacher is a guide and an instructor that is there for the student, for the individuals learning experience.

Throughout the year Pama also offers a number of class and workshop opportunities ranging from digital recording to ukelele to blues guitar and songwriting with award winning guest artists. I know that there are some popular perpetuated myths about adults not being able to learn the same way as kids can learn. We have all heard that our minds get slower and we just can't learn the way we used to but recent neurological study suggests otherwise. In fact our cognitive functions can stay healthy and intact in our later years provided we do some brain exercise. Learn a new skill, develop new neuro pathways, challenge your old paradigms and become involved, all of these keep us thinking clearly and living productively. In fact over decades adults have learned to discipline themselves and as a result they can often apply themselves to a task more effectively than their younger counterparts.

Adults often want it a lot more after having missed making music the way they did in their youth or because they didn't get the chance to do it when they were younger, so the motivation is often greater as well. After all, adults choose to be there because they want to be there and they want to have music as a part of their daily life.

I have over the years been privileged to share in the musical education and experiences of hundreds of adults and during that time I have seen first hand what a difference opening the door to music can make in someones overall quality of life. So if you are still thinking I am too old to start, instead consider the beginning of a new process and a new experience, it is never to late to start that. You may not become a virtuoso and you may not get on the radio or give concerts but you most certainly will be able to make nice musical noises with others and enjoy yourself while learning.

Seriously, just do it.
