Jasper Meiklejohn

Fiddle Lessons | Violin Lessons |

Growing up in Penticton, BC, Jasper was inspired to take up the violin by listening to his family’s collection of musical recordings, particularly recordings of Tchaikovsky. His passion for music brought him to performing with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, as soloist with the Okanagan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and eventually to Vancouver Island and to studies at UVic with Anne Elliott-Goldschmid and the Lafayette Quartet.

These days, Jasper enjoys teaching violin and can often be seen busking in the downtown core of Victoria. True to his Scottish and Irish roots, Celtic and old-time fiddle tunes have always been a part of his musical life, and one highlight of this was the chance for him to study briefly with fiddler, composer and mentor Oliver Schroer.

Teaching Philosophy

Jasper believes that the teacher-student relationship continually offers opportunities for emotional, spiritual and psychological development for both student and mentor, and that a teacher must be flexible and adapt their style to the needs and goals of the student.

Jasper teaches on Tuesdays. Please call for openings.
